Mongla, Oct 2 (V7N) – Devotees safely immersed Durga idols in the Mongla River on Thursday evening under unprecedented security arrangements by the Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard. At around 7:15 p.m., devotees carried the central idol of Bottola Mandir to the ferry ghat in a procession, followed by the sequential immersion of all idols from the town’s 34 temples.
The administration deployed record-level security to manage the immersion, while the Navy and Coast Guard intensified patrols along the Mongla River and Pashur River points from the afternoon onwards. Police and Fire Service personnel were also actively involved in ensuring the safety of participants.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Coast Guard, said, “Under strict security, hundreds of temple idols across Mongla and nearby coastal areas were safely immersed. Both land and river routes were closely monitored to prevent any untoward incidents. Rescue vehicles and diving teams were kept on standby.”
He added that with the cooperation of the community and authorities, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, Sharadiya Durga Puja, was successfully completed in a peaceful environment.
