Jhalokathi, Oct 7 (V7N) — Residents of Putiakhali village under Galua Union in Rajapur upazila of Jhalokathi district are facing severe hardship due to an incomplete road repair project funded by the Local Development Assistance Fund. The road, which connects the houses of Abdul Rahman and Ismail, remains unfinished months after work began, leaving the area muddy and impassable during rain.
According to sources, the scheme titled “Brick Soling Work from Abdul Rahman’s House to Ismail’s House” was approved for the 2024–2025 fiscal year. The project’s president is Ward No. 4 Union Parishad member Md Mahamudul Hasan. The contractor, M/S M.M. Enterprise, was assigned to implement the work, with overall coordination by Galua Union Parishad Panel Chairman Md Aminul Islam.
Despite the allocated budget, residents allege that the contractor abandoned the project halfway. As a result, even light rain turns the road into a muddy mess, making it extremely difficult for pedestrians and school-going children to commute.
One local resident said, “The contractor completed half the work and then disappeared. Whenever it rains, the road becomes unusable. We urge the authorities to finish the work quickly.”
When contacted, project president Md Mahamudul Hasan stated that although his name appears on the project signboard, he was not informed about the implementation details. “I don’t know how much money was allocated or who is actually executing the project,” he said.
Local residents have demanded immediate action from the Union Parishad and the upazila administration to resume and complete the road repair work, emphasizing that the unfinished project has become a serious inconvenience for the community.
