DHAKA, March 25, (V7N) — Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Dipen Dewan today called upon all communities in both hill and plain areas to remain united in protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty, while working together to build a corruption‑free modern Bangladesh.
He made the call while speaking at a post‑Eid reunion discussion held at the ministry’s conference room in the Secretariat.
Highlighting the diverse culture of the hill tracts, the minister said the region is unique and sensitive compared to other parts of the country. Referring to the upcoming New Year celebrations on April 12, he noted that this year’s event will be represented inclusively by all ethnic communities with their own identities, rather than being limited to the term Boisabi.
He added that initiatives will be taken to celebrate major social festivals of all communities — including Biju, Sangrai, Boisu, Bishu — in an inclusive manner.
The minister stressed eliminating unemployment in the hill tracts, accelerating government recruitment processes, and filling vacant posts properly. He reaffirmed his commitment to building a prosperous Bangladesh by ensuring equality, human dignity, and social justice under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Referring to March 25, Genocide Day, Dewan paid deep respect to the memory of unarmed civilians brutally killed in 1971 under Operation Searchlight by the Pakistani occupation forces.
State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Ministry Secretary Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, and other senior officials were present.
