DHAKA, March 25, (V7N) — Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani today said the government has adequate reserves of fuel oil, as Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed authorities to ensure a stable supply.
Briefing journalists after a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat, Ghani said: “Where earlier we used to maintain a reserve for about 15 days, now we have reserves for nearly a month.” He added that the government plans to expand reserves further to manage any potential energy shocks.
A meeting on the energy situation was held in the morning, attended by ministers and officials concerned. The Prime Minister directed necessary measures to ensure stability in the energy sector.
Explaining today’s cabinet schedule, Ghani said meetings are usually held on Thursdays, but since March 26 is marked by several national events, the meeting was convened today instead.
At the beginning of the meeting, members recalled the black night of March 25, 1971, when Pakistani occupation forces carried out genocide under Operation Searchlight. They remembered that this led to the declaration of independence and the start of the Liberation War, and prayers were offered for the martyrs.
