Rangamati, Oct 7 (V7N) — Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU ) General Secretary, (GS) SM Farhad was accorded a warm reception in Rangamati on Tuesday morning. The event took place at Al Amin Madrasa in the Banarupa Forest Colony area, attended by local teachers, political and religious leaders, and community representatives.
Earlier in the day, around 9:30 a.m., members of the district units of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir welcomed Farhad with flowers at Vedvedi. A motorcycle rally then escorted him to the reception venue.
The reception was presided over by Al Amin Madrasa Principal Nurul Alam Siddique, with Islami Chhatra Shibir Rangamati District President Robiul Islam moderating the event. Among the guests were Rangamati Hill District Council member Minhaj Morshed, Jamaat-e-Islami district Nayeb-e-Ameer Jahangir Alam, and Secretary Monsurul Haque.
In their speeches, the guests emphasized the importance of education and developing capable leadership among the youth. Rangamati Hill District Council member Minhaj Morshed said, “The country is facing a shortage of capable leadership. The way Farhad is leading at Dhaka University should inspire the students of the hill districts to build themselves into competent leaders.”
In his speech, SM Farhad expressed gratitude and reflected on his challenging journey from the remote Longadu area of Rangamati. “My path was not easy. I came from a place where even government teachers hesitate to stay. Yet, if one has a passion for learning, talented students can emerge even from the hills,” he said.
He added, “With greater state support, students from the hill regions can also reach national leadership positions. It was encouraging to see participants from the hill tracts, including Sammitra Chakma, Sadik Kayem, and Hema Chakma, contesting in the recent DUCSU election.”
The DUCSU election, held on September 9, saw the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed coalition ‘Oikyo Boddho Chhatro Jote’ achieve a sweeping victory. SM Farhad, who currently serves as the president of Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Dhaka University unit, was elected General Secretary.
Farhad hails from Gathachhara village under Maini Union in Longadu upazila of Rangamati. He completed his Dakhil studies at Baytush Sharaf Jabbariya Adarsha Dakhil Madrasa, later pursuing higher education in Chattogram and Dhaka University.
