Rangamati, Oct 16 (V7N) – The upcoming meeting of the Chattogram Hill Tracts Land Dispute Resolution Commission, scheduled for Sunday, October 19, in Rangamati, has been postponed. The decision was confirmed Thursday evening through an official notification issued by the commission.
According to the notice signed by Commission Secretary and Joint District and Sessions Judge Md. Shahab Uddin (Memo No. Pachvubinik/Khagra-55, dated October 16, 2025), the meeting that was earlier set to take place at 11 a.m. on October 19 at the Rangamati Hill District Council Building has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. The letter added that a new date for the meeting will be announced later.
The notification refers to a previous circular (Memo No. Pachvubinik/Khagra-48, dated October 7, 2025), which had instructed all commission members to attend the scheduled session.
In recent weeks, various organizations—including the Parbatya Nagorik Parishad and Parbatya Chhatra Parishad, along with other student and civic groups—had staged protests across the three hill districts demanding that the meeting be suspended.
Earlier on Thursday morning, leaders of the Parbatya Chhatra Parishad held a press conference at a local restaurant in Rangamati, warning that any attempt to hold the commission meeting without first implementing their eight-point demand would be met with strong resistance from local residents and students.
They announced that if the meeting was not postponed, demonstrators would stage sit-ins at every major intersection in Rangamati city and surround the meeting venue throughout Sunday, October 19, while enforcing a daylong blockade across the municipal area.
The Chattogram Hill Tracts Land Dispute Resolution Commission, established under the 2001 Act, is mandated to resolve long-standing land ownership conflicts in the hill districts of Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban. However, its proceedings have often faced delays due to political sensitivities, local opposition, and administrative complications.
