Rangamati, Oct 23 (V7N) – A rare and astonishing incident has unfolded in the remote hilly area of Erabunia under Barkal upazila of Rangamati, where a massive python swallowed a farmer’s goat on Wednesday morning, causing widespread curiosity and alarm in the locality.

According to local sources, the python was discovered in the forest near Ward No. 5 of Erabunia village. Farmer Md. Rumi went searching for one of his missing goats early in the morning. While combing through nearby woodland, he spotted a giant python with a visibly swollen abdomen.

Initially frightened, Rumi soon gathered courage and, with the help of nearby residents, managed to corner and safely capture the reptile. It was quickly suspected that the snake had devoured the missing goat.

Upon receiving the news, Commander Md. Nazim Uddin of the 12 BGB Erabunia Camp and Forest Officer Md. Akbar Ali rushed to the scene. They took the python into custody with assistance from local officials, including village guard Md. Jahangir Alam and several community leaders. Later, the python was formally handed over to the Forest Department.

Forest Officer Md. Akbar Ali confirmed the animal’s safety, saying, “The python has been rescued unharmed. After observation, it will be released back into the hill forest.”

Local residents stated that while pythons are occasionally seen in the Erabunia hills, this is the first known instance of one swallowing a domesticated animal. The event sparked significant discussion across the community, with many attributing it to the loss of wildlife habitats and growing environmental imbalance.

Residents praised the quick response of the Forest Department, saying their timely action saved the python’s life. Locals also urged greater awareness about protecting wildlife and maintaining ecological balance in the hilly regions of Bangladesh.
