The Khulna Medical College (Khumek) Hospital's intern physicians have gone on strike to protest their pay hike. This 48-hour strike will run from 8:30 p.m. on Saturday to 8:30 p.m. on Monday the following week.
According to Dr. Asaduzzaman Sagar, general secretary, and Dr. Dibakar Chakma, president of the intern physician council at Khumek Hospital, intern physicians and postgraduate trainee physicians demonstrated last year to call for raises in their pay and benefits.
The former minister of health pledged to raise pay and benefits. Later, the pay for postgraduate trainee physicians was raised, but not for intern physicians. They want the pay to be raised to thirty thousand rupees.
Meanwhile, the patients and their relatives said that if the intern doctors observe 2 consecutive days of work break during fasting, they will have to suffer.
