Jhalokathi, Dec 15 (V7N) – Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed with due respect and solemnity in Kathalia upazila of Jhalokathi on Sunday, commemorating the intellectuals who were brutally killed during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
The observance began at 9:30 am with the laying of wreaths at the mass grave located near Taltala Bazar in the upazila. Following the tribute, a discussion meeting was held at the premises of the Kali Temple.
The program was presided over by Nakirul Islam, Acting Chairman of Amua Union Parishad, and conducted by Kamrul Islam, Upazila Youth Development Officer. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Md. Mokbul Hossain, attended the event as the chief guest.
Among others present at the discussion were freedom fighter Md. Fazlul Haque Mridha, Officer-in-Charge of Kathalia Police Station Md. Naser Raihan, and Abdul Halim, Acting Principal of Amua Shaheed Raja Degree College.
Speakers at the event paid deep tribute to the martyred intellectuals and highlighted their invaluable contribution to the nation, emphasizing the importance of upholding their ideals in building a just and enlightened society.
Officials and employees of various upazila administration offices, freedom fighters, elected representatives, journalists, political leaders, and other local dignitaries were also in attendance, reflecting broad community participation in honoring the memory of the nation’s fallen intellectuals.
