Rangpur, Jan 03 (V7N) - Following scrutiny of nomination papers, six candidates have been disqualified in the Rangpur-3 (Sadar) and Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha–Kaunia) constituencies, while 14 candidates have been declared valid.
The verification process was conducted in accordance with election rules from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday at the Rangpur District Administrator’s conference room. The scrutiny was led by District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan, in the presence of candidates, their proposers and supporters, election officials, assistant returning officers, police officials, Anti-Corruption Commission representatives, Bangladesh Bank officials, and other concerned authorities.
In Rangpur-3, the disqualified candidates are BNP nomination-deprived independent candidate Rita Rahman, Anwarul Islam Babul of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh (BASAD), and Touhidur Rahman Mondol of Khelafat Majlis. The valid candidates in this constituency include Abdul Quddus of BASAD, Amiruzzaman Piyal of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Samsuzzaman Samu of BNP, GM Quader of the Jatiya Party, Mahbubur Rahman Belal of Jamaat-e-Islami, Nur Alam Siddique of Khelafat Majlis, and independent third-gender candidate Anwara Islam Rani.
In Rangpur-4, independent candidates Shah Alam Bashar and Zainul Abedin, along with Abdus Salam of the Jatiya Party (Anis–Ruhul faction), were disqualified. The candidates declared valid in this constituency are Emdadul Haque Bharsa of BNP, Pragati Barman Toma of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist), Abu Sahma of Khelafat Majlis, Akhtar Hossain of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Ujjal Chandra Roy of Bangladesh Congress, Abu Naser Shah Md. Mahbubar Rahman of the Jatiya Party, and Zahid Hossain of Islami Andolon Bangladesh.
District Returning Officer Mohammad Enamul Ahsan stated that nomination papers of 20 candidates from the two constituencies were scrutinized. Of them, seven candidates in each constituency were found valid. He added that the disqualified candidates have the opportunity to seek remedy through appeal in court, as per electoral law.
