Barguna, Jan 04 (V7N) — Out of 18 candidates who submitted nomination papers for Barguna-1 and Barguna-2 constituencies, five nominations have been declared invalid after the scrutiny process, District Commissioner and Returning Officer Miz Taslima Akter announced on Saturday afternoon at the Barguna Deputy Commissioner’s office.
In Barguna-1, independent candidate Moshiur Rahman’s nomination was cancelled for concealing loan information. In Barguna-2, the following candidates’ nominations were rejected: Md. Alauddin Akash of Amjanatar Dal for hiding multiple convictions and legal cases, Md. Solaiman of National Peoples Party (NPP) for being a loan defaulter, independent candidate Md. Shamim for failing to be on the voter list, not signing the nomination paper, and not submitting the required support letters signed by 1% of voters, and independent candidate Md. Rashed Uz Zaman for failing to follow proper procedures and provide required information.
Following the scrutiny, in Barguna-1, five candidates were declared valid: Md. Nazrul Islam Molla (BNP), Md. Oli Ullah (Islami Andolon Bangladesh), Md. Jahangir Hossain (Khelafat Majlis), Md. Muhibullah (Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami), and Md. Jamal Hossain (Jatiya Party-JP).
In Barguna-2, eight candidates were declared valid: Md. Nurul Islam Moni (BNP vice-chairman), Md. Mizanur Rahman (Islami Andolon Bangladesh), Dr. Sultan Ahmed (Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami), Md. Rafiqul Islam (Khelafat Majlis), Abdul Latif Farazi (Jatiya Party), Md. Sabbir Ahmed (Bangladesh Congress), Syed Md. Najes Afroz (Nationalist Democratic Movement), and Md. Kamruzzaman Liton (Bangladesh Jatiya Party).
The Returning Officer stated that candidates whose nominations were rejected have the right to appeal to the Election Commission according to the law.
The scrutiny process was attended by election officials and representatives of the candidates to ensure transparency and compliance with legal procedures.
