Ramu, Jan 06 (V7N) — Police have discovered an illegal firearms manufacturing factory hidden in a remote hilly region of Eidgar Union under Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.
The raid was conducted at around 6:30 am on Monday (January 5) in a secluded area known as Abu Ahmad Guna Fatema Chhara. The operation was carried out under the direction of Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police A.N.M. Sajedur Rahman and supervised by Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam Bhuiyan.
According to police sources, intelligence information indicated that a group of individuals had been illegally manufacturing firearms in the remote hilly area. Acting on this tip-off, a joint police team led by Sub-Inspector (Unarmed) Md. Khorshed Alam, along with Assistant Sub-Inspectors (Unarmed) Muhammad Zahirul Islam, Milon Barua, and Rabiul Islam, conducted the operation with accompanying force.
During the raid, police recovered a significant quantity of firearms-related items, including two live rifle rounds, four empty shotgun cartridges, two gun stocks, three trigger boxes, six metal pipes used as gun barrels, three gun assembly components, an air machine, two chisels, five metal blades, a blade frame, a saw, a hammer, pliers, seven small and large lathes, and a grinding machine. All the recovered materials are believed to have been used in the illegal production of firearms.
Sensing the presence of law enforcement, three to four individuals reportedly fled the scene before the police could detain them. No arrests have been made so far.
Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam Bhuiyan confirmed the authenticity of the operation and stated that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved. Further legal action is being prepared in connection with the recovered illegal weapons manufacturing equipment.
