Pabna, Jan 13 (V7N) — Proloy Chaki, a prominent music artist of Pabna district, Cultural Affairs Secretary of the Pabna District Awami League, General Secretary of the District Awami Shilpi Goshthi, and Joint Secretary (Culture) of Banmali Shilpakala Kendra, has died. He breathed his last around 9:00 pm on Sunday, January 11, at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Pabna Jail Superintendent Omar Faruk confirmed the matter, stating that Proloy Chaki fell seriously ill on Friday morning while in custody at Pabna District Jail. He was suffering from heart-related complications and diabetes. Following his deteriorating condition, he was first admitted to Pabna General Hospital and later referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, he passed away there on Sunday night at around 9:00 pm.

According to family members, his body will be brought back to Pabna after the post-mortem examination scheduled for Monday. Details regarding his funeral rites will be announced once the body arrives in the district.

Proloy Chaki was the eldest son of the late Lakhi Das Chaki, a renowned cultural organizer and actor of the district. He was arrested by Detective Branch police from his residence in the Patharghata area of Pabna on the morning of December 16 in connection with a case related to the anti-discrimination movement. Since then, he had been in custody at Pabna District Jail.

Following his death, a deep sense of grief has spread across the cultural community, as well as among his relatives, colleagues, and well-wishers, who remembered him as a dedicated cultural activist and artist.

Family members also stated that all concerned will be informed in due course about the timing of his last rites after the body reaches Pabna.
