Voting for the second phase of the 6th Upazila Parishad elections concluded in 156 upazilas across Bangladesh May 21, 2024. Voting was held from 8 am to 4 pm. Returning officers announced the election results at night after completing the vote count.
 
On Tuesday (May 21) Voting for the second phase of the Upazila Parishad elections took place in Brahmanbaria's Kasba and Akhaura upazilas.
 
In Kasba upazila, Law Minister Anisul Haq's cousin Shaidur Rahman was elected unofficially as chairman, while Monir Hossain, the former chairmanship of Mogora Union Parishad for three terms, was elected unofficially as chairman of Akhaura upazila.
 
Brahmanbaria Additional District Administrator (General) and Returning Officer Md. Saiful Islam confirmed the matter.
 
According to the declared results, Shaidur Rahman Sapan won the chairman  race with 86,698 votes under the Kap-Prez symbol in Kasba upazila. He was the co-president of the upazila Awami League and the former chairman of Kuti Union Parishad. His closest rival, Rashedul Kausar Vuiya, the current chairman of the upazila parishad and former assistant personal secretary of Law Minister Anisul Haq, secured 39,959 votes under the Pineapple symbol.
 
On the other hand, Monir Hossain won the chairmanship race unofficially with 28,309 votes under the Horse symbol in Akhaura upazila. He was the former convener of the upazila Jubo League and the former chairman of Mogora Union Parishad for three terms. His closest rival, the former vice-chairman of the upazila parishad, secured 14,563 votes under the Pineapple symbol.
