Barguna, July 9 (V7N)- In demand of the unification of the Palli Bidyutayan Board and Palli Bidyut Samiti to implement a uniform employment policy, and regularization of contract and irregular employees, 900 officers and employees of the Palli Bidyut Samiti of Patuakhali and Barguna districts have gone on strike.
Starting from Monday morning, thousands of customers in both districts have faced inconvenience as the strike continues indefinitely, despite the continued provision of electricity services. Their two main demands are to make the service code uniform and regularize all irregular employees.
To achieve their demands, 900 officers and employees from 11 upazilas of Barguna and Patuakhali have gathered in front of the Patuakhali Palli Bidyut Samiti office since Monday morning, holding daily meetings, rallies, and protests.
As hundreds of employees and officers from both districts continue their indefinite strike, thousands of electricity customers are experiencing severe inconvenience. Customers traveling from distant areas with various issues are returning disappointed as they receive no service.
In front of the Amtali Palli Bidyut Samiti office, a conversation took place with customer Ataur Rahman from Taktabunia village of Haldia Union. He said, "For the past three days, including today, I have been coming to the Palli Bidyut office to solve a meter problem but had to return home disappointed. I heard they are on strike, so they will not provide any service to customers. This has caused extreme inconvenience to many customers like me."
Engineer Md. Zia Uddin Torafdar of the Amtali Palli Bidyut Samiti office said, "We have suspended all activities except emergency customer service. We will return to work if our legitimate demands are met."
Sanjay Roy, Deputy General Manager of Palli Bidyut Samiti Patuakhali, stated, "We, the officers and employees of the Samiti, have been continuing this movement to protest the 'discriminatory behavior, abuse, and imposition of low-quality materials on the Palli Bidyut Samiti by senior officials of the Palli Bidyutayan Board, which causes inconvenience to customers.'"
