Bagerhat, July 15 (V7N) - The Mongla Port Authority has launched a major green initiative, planting 6,000 trees to promote afforestation. Under the banner "We will reclaim the land, stop desertification, and achieve drought resilience," the initiative was inaugurated by Rear Admiral Shahin Rahman, Chairman of the Mongla Port Authority, at a ceremony on Monday, July 15, at 11 AM. Among those present were Captain Mohammad Kibria Haque, Member (Harbor and Marine); Kazi Abed Hossain, Member (Finance); Dr. A. K. M. Anisur Rahman, Member (Engineering and Development); Md. Nuruzzaman, Director (Administration); and Md. Makruzzaman, Deputy Director (Board and Public Relations).

Rear Admiral Shahin Rahman announced that the 6,000 trees are being planted across various areas, including new and old port zones, the Khulna area, the port headquarters, and 29 industrial areas along the Pashur Channel. These efforts aim to reduce temperature extremes and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, such as storms and heavy rainfall.

He highlighted that if everyone in the country plants a tree, it would significantly contribute to a greener and more prosperous Bengal. He also noted that the development of Mongla Port is crucial for the progress of the southern region and the nation as a whole. With collective effort, the Mongla Port can achieve significant advancements.
