Bagherhat, July 16 (V7N) - An investigation has been initiated into the deaths of 21 buffalo calves at the country's only buffalo reproduction and development farm located in Fakirhat, Bagherhat. On Monday, a three-member investigation committee from the farm conducted inspections and collected written statements from farm personnel regarding the deaths of buffalo calves that occurred in December and January of this year.

Dr. Ahsan Uddin, Senior Assistant Director of the Bagherhat Buffalo Reproduction and Development Farm, confirmed the incident. Notably, in 2023, 149 mature buffaloes and 120 buffalo calves were imported from India three times to meet the country's milk demand.

In response to the deaths of ten calves imported from India and eleven calves born at the farm, a three-member investigation committee was formed. Dr. Nurullah Md. Ahsan, Khulna Divisional Director of the Wildlife Department, supervised the site inspection and observed the burial of buffalo calf carcasses.

Previously, a letter was sent to the senior assistant director of the buffalo farm to ascertain the cause of death of the buffalo calves. As the response was unsatisfactory, a special three-member investigation committee was constituted.

Dr. Nurullah Md. Ahsan, Khulna Divisional Director of the Wildlife Department, stated that efforts are underway to gather information from officials regarding the transportation of the buffalo calves.
