Chapainawabganj, Sep 21 (V7N)-  After a six-day halt, import-export operations at the Sonamsjid land port in Chapainawabganj resumed on Saturday morning. The operations had been suspended due to a strike initiated by importers protesting irregularities, corruption, and the collection of extra fees.

Mainul Islam, manager of Panama Port Link Ltd., and Md. Shahbuddin, president of the Import-Export Group, confirmed the reopening of the port.

The suspension began last Sunday, following a decision by importers to stop goods movement through the port due to a four-point demand, including grievances against Panama Port Link Ltd. related to irregular practices and overcharging. A meeting was held on Thursday, mediated by the Deputy Commissioner, between importers and Panama Port Link Ltd.

Shahbuddin stated that the discussions were productive, leading to the decision to resume operations. Panama Port Link Ltd. has agreed to address the importers' concerns, including the cessation of additional charges and irregularities.

Mainul Islam confirmed that both parties reached an agreement, and import-export activities with India have now resumed as usual at the land port.
