Dhaka, Oct 08 (V7N): For yet another year, Bangladeshi universities have been unable to secure a position within the top 800 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2025.

Despite 16 universities from Bangladesh making the rankings, none managed to break into the top 800. In contrast, neighboring countries like India and Pakistan performed better, with India securing 22 spots and Pakistan claiming 9 within the global top 800.

The rankings, released on Wednesday, evaluate universities based on key performance indicators such as teaching quality, research output, citations, and the international representation of students.

Among the Bangladeshi universities, five institutions—Jahangirnagar University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Daffodil International University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, and North South University—were placed in the 801–1000 range.

Meanwhile, the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), Brac University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, and Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) were ranked in the 1001–1200 range. Jagannath University, on the other hand, ranked below 1500, reflecting the competitive gap of Bangladeshi institutions on the global stage.

Leading the rankings were the University of Oxford in first place, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University in second and third, respectively.
