Jan 10, (V7N) - Residential students at Islamic University (IU) are facing severe disruptions in their academic activities due to an extremely slow internet connection in the dormitories. Despite repeated complaints, hall authorities have taken no visible steps to resolve the issue.
The situation is particularly dire in Saddam Hossain Hall and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall, where the internet connection often becomes completely unavailable. This persistent issue is affecting students' ability to attend online classes, conduct research, and engage in other educational activities.
In contrast, Sheikh Russel Hall, Lalon Shah Hall, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall reportedly have a better internet connection, highlighting disparities in service across the university's halls.
Hasnat Abdullah, a resident of Saddam Hossain Hall, expressed his frustration:
"Online platforms are pivotal in daily life and research. But in our hall, the internet connection is so poor that even using a simple search engine is troublesome. This is severely impacting our research and academic progress. We submitted a written complaint, but no action has been taken."
Similarly, Raju Islam, a student from Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall, said:
"The internet service in our hall is very bad. We have complained to the hall office several times, but no adequate measures h
ave been taken."
When approached, Dr. Md. Shahjahan Ali, Director of the ICT Cell, stated:
"We have not received any complaints from the hall office recently. However, if there is an internet problem in any hall, we will fix it as soon as possible. Usually, we take quick action once a complaint is lodged."
Efforts to contact Dr. Zakir Hossain, the President of the Provost Council, were unsuccessful despite multiple attempts.
However, Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, the Provost of Saddam Hossain Hall, acknowledged the issue:
"We have already communicated with the ICT Cell. The issue will be fixed promptly."
With academic demands increasing, reliable internet access is critical for students' success. Students are calling for immediate and effective measures to restore stable internet service in all halls to ensure equal access to digital resources.
