Dhaka, Feb 02 (V7N) – Three students of Titumir College, who have been on a hunger strike demanding the college's upgrade to a university, have fallen seriously ill. Doctors have warned that their condition is deteriorating and immediate hospitalization is necessary.

Dr. Russell, who was monitoring the students’ health, told reporters on Sunday that their physical condition has worsened due to prolonged fasting.

"They need urgent medical attention. If not treated immediately, their health could deteriorate further," he said.

Students Vow to Continue Protests

The hunger strike began at 5 PM last Wednesday, with five students initially participating. More joined in later. Several students had already been hospitalized on Friday and Saturday but rejoined the strike upon returning.

Alongside the hunger strike, students are also holding a ‘Barasat Barricade to North City’ program and have been blocking Amtali Road since noon on Sunday.

"We don’t want to cause public suffering, but the government only listens when people take to the streets," said Mahmud Mukta of Titumir Unity, rejecting the Ministry of Education’s request for patience.

On Saturday night, students threatened stricter protests if their demands were not met soon.

"The government's inefficiency will be responsible for any unrest," warned Mukta.

Government Stands Firm on Decision

The Ministry of Education has dismissed the protest, stating that there is "no logic in setting a deadline for the university status announcement." Officials urged students to remain patient.

Despite this, the protesters insist they will not stop until Titumir College is officially declared a university. They have also announced plans for further road blockades in front of the college in the coming days.
