Dhaka, Feb 2 (V7N) – Titumir College students have strongly rejected the recent statement made by Education Advisor Professor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud, which stated that there is no chance of Titumir College receiving any special privileges. In response, the students have vowed to continue their protests, including the 'Barasat Barricade to North City' program.
Protest and Road Blockage
On Sunday (February 2), at 6 pm, the students took to the streets, starting a protest procession from Amtoli, Mohakhali towards Gulshan, before blocking the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
The road blockage caused significant traffic disruption in the area. The students carried slogans and placards with messages such as:
- ‘Education Advisor’s decision, accept or reject’
- ‘Action to action, direct action’
- ‘We want justice’
- ‘No compromise, struggle, struggle’
- ‘Titumir is coming, the road is shaking’
- ‘Our struggle, continue, continue’
- And many more.
Rejection of Education Advisor's Statement
The students were responding to Professor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud's statement after the ECNEC meeting, where he stated that Titumir College would not receive any special benefits. He also mentioned that efforts were underway to convert seven colleges into separate universities, but Titumir College would not be part of these plans. He further stated that Rajshahi College should be made a university due to its historical significance.
Request to End Public Suffering
The Education Advisor also expressed concern over public suffering caused by the protests, urging the students to return to class. He emphasized that many students of Titumir College wished to end the protests and return to their studies, avoiding further disruption.
Despite this appeal, the students are determined to continue their struggle until their demand for Titumir College's recognition as a university is met.
