Dhaka, Feb 3 (V7N) – Students of Titumir College have intensified their protests, demanding its conversion into a university, leading to major disruptions in Mohakhali.

On Monday (February 3) at 3:40 PM, students blocked the Mohakhali rail crossing, halting rail communication across the country except for the Padma connection. The Noakhali-bound Coastal Express from Kamalapur railway station was among the trains affected. Additionally, road traffic in Mohakhali remains completely halted due to the blockade.

Security Measures Escalate

  • 4 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed.
  • Additional police forces have surrounded the protesters.
  • Water cannons have been brought in as a precautionary measure.

Months of Protests & Hunger Strike

Titumir College students have been protesting for months, organizing processions, blockades, memorandum submissions, and class boycotts. After receiving no clear response from authorities, they began a hunger strike on January 29, which has continued for the sixth consecutive day.

Government Response

In response, Information Advisor Nahid Islam urged students to remain patient, assuring that a positive solution is in progress. However, protestors remain firm in their demands, pushing for immediate action.

With tensions rising, it remains to be seen how authorities will address the students' demands and restore normalcy in the capital.
