Khulna, Apr 15 (V7N) – The Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has temporarily expelled 37 students for their alleged involvement in the unrest that took place on February 18 and 19. The decision was made at the university’s 101st (Emergency) Syndicate meeting, held Monday night (April 14) at the university conference room.

According to a press release signed by Shaheduzzaman Sheikh, Public Relations Officer (Additional Duty) of KUET’s Public Relations, Information and Publication Division, the Syndicate accepted the sealed report submitted by the investigation committee formed during the 98th (Emergency) Syndicate meeting on February 19.

Following the acceptance of the report, the Syndicate decided to temporarily expel 37 students and referred the matter to the university's Student Disciplinary Committee for further action.

The university also announced that academic activities will resume on May 4, and all residential halls will reopen on May 2.

The Syndicate’s decisions, however, were met with strong opposition from students. Protesters, who have been staging a sit-in in front of the administrative building, expressed frustration over the delay in reopening the halls and resuming classes.

The students claimed their demand was for the halls to open starting Monday night, and they were awaiting an official announcement following the Syndicate meeting. However, they allege that no one from the administration has formally communicated the decisions to them.

Protesters also expressed concern over the expulsion of 37 students and announced they would hold a press briefing after reviewing the list of names.

The unrest at KUET stemmed from demands to ban student politics, which led to clashes on February 18. In response, the university's 99th (Emergency) Syndicate meeting on February 25 decided to close all residential halls indefinitely, ordering students to vacate them by 10 AM the next day.
