Tangail, Aug 12 (V7N) – Akhtaruzzaman Saju, a student of Criminology and Police Science at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU), has begun a hunger strike demanding the formation of a central student union. The strike began at 11 a.m. on Monday in front of the university's administrative building, with symbolic support from other students.
Saju stated that the demand is one of the nine points under the anti-discrimination student movement, arguing that an elected student union would ensure administrative accountability and leadership development. Protesters also called for the university's Regent Board to formally approve a student union and establish a constitution drafting committee.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Anwarul Azim Akhand said that the issue has already been discussed and further talks at a higher level are ongoing before a final decision is made.
