Dhaka, Aug 26 (V7N) – Returning Officer Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani announced that a three-tier security arrangement will be implemented to ensure smooth conduct of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Parliament elections. The army will be deployed at seven key entrances as a striking force.
Speaking at a discussion with candidates at the university senate building on Tuesday, Dr. Rabbani outlined the security plan:
-
First tier: Over 200 members of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) and teaching members of the proctorial body.
-
Second tier: Police deployed at polling centers.
-
Third tier: Army personnel stationed at seven university entrances, ready to intervene within five minutes if needed. After voting, army members will form a cordon around centers until results are announced.
The Election Commission emphasized that only valid voters will be allowed on campus during the elections. DU Metro Station will remain closed on September 8–9, the election days.
Another returning officer, Professor Dr. Kazi Maruful Islam, warned that candidates cannot campaign by insulting martyrs of the Liberation War or the events of the 24th.
The official campaign period begins today, following the announcement of the final candidate list. Candidates may use black-and-white posters, leaflets, or handbills featuring only their own picture. Posters cannot be placed on walls, vehicles, fences, trees, electricity or telephone poles, or other university property. Defacing others’ campaign materials is prohibited. Ink, lime, or chemicals may not be used for campaign purposes.
Campaigning is permitted from August 26 to September 7, 11 pm, within halls or campus areas. Activities such as social, financial, or service cooperation, organizing majlis-mahfils, or campaigning in religious institutions are strictly prohibited.
