Dhaka, Aug 31 (V7N) – With the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections scheduled for September 9, a festive mood has gripped the university campus. Candidates are actively campaigning, and student enthusiasm is surging as the election draws near.

As election day approaches, the DU campus is abuzz with campaign activities. Independent candidate for Vice President (VP), Umama Fatema, and Sanjida Ahmed Tonni, running independently for the position of Research and Publication Secretary, were seen engaging with voters, distributing leaflets, and making direct appeals for support. Many other candidates are similarly occupied, moving hall to hall to present their manifestos and build voter confidence.

Students are responding with enthusiasm, participating in discussions, and attending campaign events. Candidates are emphasizing personal integrity, clear agendas, and a commitment to student welfare, rather than relying solely on political affiliations or banners. The tone of the campaign has largely centered around issues of safety, modernization, academic support, and the development of a more inclusive and student-friendly campus.

A significant portion of this year’s election focus rests on the five female dormitories and Jagannath Hall, which many believe could be the key swing factor. These halls collectively account for nearly 47 percent of the electorate, with approximately 18,902 registered female voters. Observers suggest that the voting behavior of students from these halls could decisively influence the overall election outcome.

Unlike traditional voting blocs, female voters have shown a tendency to prioritize the candidate’s personal qualifications, clear commitments to improving campus life, and promises of ensuring safety and gender-sensitive policies. This trend signals a shift toward issue-based voting and reflects a growing demand for accountability and tangible change in student leadership.

Candidates have pledged to work collectively to reflect the aspirations of the student body and create a more responsive and safe university environment, regardless of the election results.

The upcoming DUCSU and hall union elections mark a renewed opportunity for students to engage democratically, advocate for their rights, and shape the future of student governance on campus.
