Jhalokathi, Sept 2 (V7N) – Teachers from government secondary schools in Jhalokathi staged a human chain protest on Tuesday, pressing for the implementation of a four-tier academic promotion structure, beginning with Grade 9 for assistant teachers. The demonstration was organized by the district branch of the Government Secondary Teachers’ Association and held in front of the Jhalokathi Press Club.
Participants included teachers from various upazilas, all united under the slogan: "One Point, One Demand – Start Assistant Teachers at Grade 9 with Four-Tier Career Path."
Speakers at the event highlighted the long-standing demand for fair career progression. They stated that despite repeated appeals, assistant teachers have been denied their rightful entry-level grade and opportunities for structured promotions, leading to systemic inequality within the profession.
They further stressed that the implementation of a four-tier academic structure is essential for maintaining the dignity of educators and ensuring quality education. Until the demand is fulfilled, the teachers pledged to continue their movement through peaceful protests.
The association called on the government to act promptly, noting that professional development and education reform are contingent upon structural changes in the teaching cadre.
