Chatmohar, Sept 27 (V7N) – World Rivers Day 2025 was observed in Chatmohar, Pabna, on Saturday with a series of programs under the theme “Rivers and Waterbodies: The Storehouse of Our Nature, Culture, and Social Values.” The day’s events were jointly organized by Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and Baral Vidya Niketan, featuring a rally, discussion meeting, and graffiti drawing competition.

The program began at 10 a.m. with a colorful rally that started from Baral Vidya Niketan in Kumarpara village. Carrying banners, festoons, and chanting slogans, participants marched through local roads before distributing awareness leaflets among pedestrians.
 
Later, a discussion meeting was held in the school premises, presided over by the school’s head teacher, Dil Afroz, and conducted by art teacher Milon Rob. Speakers included BAPA Vice President S.M. Mizanur Rahman, theatre personality Asaduzzaman Dulal, former president of Chatmohar Press Club Rokibur Rahman Tukun, current general secretary S.M. Masud Rana, Dr. S.M. Atikul Islam, and journalist Shahin Rahman, among others.
 
Speakers emphasized that rivers, canals, wetlands, ponds, and natural ecosystems are vital to sustaining life and making Earth habitable. They warned that human actions are disrupting the natural flow of rivers, leading to ecological degradation. Protecting rivers and waterbodies has become an urgent necessity, they noted, stressing that communities must take responsibility to restore and safeguard these resources, even if it requires collective struggle.
 
Following the discussion, a graffiti drawing competition on rivers was held with the participation of schoolchildren. Prizes were distributed among the winners at the end of the event.
 
Experts highlighted that rivers in Bangladesh are not only ecological lifelines but also deeply connected to the country’s cultural heritage, agriculture, and livelihoods. They warned that unchecked pollution, encroachment, and climate change threaten these vital resources, and immediate conservation efforts are crucial to ensure sustainability for future generations.
