Rajshahi, Oct 13 (V7N) – The campaign and public relations period for the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) elections will end tomorrow (October 14) at midnight, as candidates intensify their last-minute efforts to woo voters.
From Monday (October 13) morning, candidates and their supporters have been visiting various parts of the campus — including residential halls, transport stands, markets, and the Shaheed Minar premises — promising to resolve campus problems and ensure student welfare if elected.
The long-awaited RUCSU elections are scheduled for October 16, marking the revival of the student body after 35 years. To facilitate the polls, the Rajshahi University administration has announced a two-day suspension of academic activities on October 15 and 16.
According to the Election Commission, 247 candidates are contesting for 23 posts in RUCSU. Among them, 18 are vying for the Vice President (VP) post, 13 for General Secretary (GS), and 16 for Assistant General Secretary (AGS). A total of 12 panels, including those backed by Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir, are participating in the election.
Additionally, 58 candidates are contesting for 5 Senate Student Representative posts, while 597 candidates are competing for 17 Hall Parliament positions. The total number of voters stands at 28,901, including 11,305 female and 17,596 male students.
Voting will take place at 17 centers across 9 academic buildings. In total, 317 representatives will be elected to the Hall Parliaments, 5 to the Senate, and 23 to RUCSU.
