Dhaka, Oct 22 (V7N) – The murder of Jagannath University student Zobayed Hossain has taken a new turn as police investigators claim that a romantic relationship led to his killing. However, the university’s teachers’ association has strongly rejected this version, accusing investigators of fabricating a “love triangle” narrative to divert the case.
At a press conference held on Wednesday in front of the Language Martyr Rafique Building, Professor Roich Uddin, General Secretary of the Teachers’ Association, said that Zobayed was not the kind of person to be involved in such matters. “The so-called love triangle story is a character assassination and an attempt to mislead the investigation,” he said. “We want justice for the real killers. No innocent person should be punished.”
Professor Roich Uddin also raised questions about inconsistencies in the case statement. “In the FIR, one suspect, Shabnam Barsha, allegedly provided information about Zobayed’s location to his roommate, which was supposed to be the first lead. But why was this detail omitted from the official report?” he asked.
Referring to CCTV footage, the professor said two men wearing black and red T-shirts were seen at the scene. “Were they the same two accused? If so, have their clothes been seized as evidence?” he asked, adding, “Zobayed was stabbed only once. How could someone shorter, like Mahir, overpower and kill someone of Zobayed’s height? Was a professional killer hired?”
He further announced that the upcoming University Day, on October 27, would be dedicated to Zobayed’s memory. The university will also appoint a lawyer to monitor the progress of the case.
The press conference was attended by the university’s Proctor, Professor Tajammul Haque, the legal representative of the plaintiff’s family, and several leaders of student organizations.
Police have not yet issued any official response to the allegations raised by the teachers’ association. However, investigators say they are analyzing CCTV footage and mobile communication data to identify all individuals involved in the killing.
The murder of Zobayed Hossain has shocked students and teachers across the country, sparking protests and demands for a transparent investigation into what many believe was a premeditated act rather than a crime of passion.
