Tangail, July 11 (V7N)- Educational activities have been suspended at 72 institutions in flood-affected areas of Tangail, causing significant distress among students and parents. Authorities have assured that classes will resume promptly once the floodwaters recede.

According to the Tangail Primary and Secondary Education Office, six of the twelve upazilas in the district are experiencing flooding. In three of these upazilas, 72 institutions have suspended their activities due to waterlogged classrooms and premises.

In government primary schools, 26 institutions in Sadar Upazila and 14 in Bhuyapur Upazila are affected. In addition, there are 11 secondary and higher secondary institutions in Sadar Upazila, 4 in Basail Upazila, 8 in Bhuyapur Upazila, and 9 in Kalihati Upazila.

Sathi Bithi, a fourth-grade student at Charvadrashimul Government Primary School in Bhuyapur Upazila, mentioned that water has entered their classroom, and their teacher has advised them not to attend school until the water dries up.

Bithi's father, Sheikh Kamal, expressed that it is safer for young children to avoid going through the water.

Shaha Alam Akand Shafla, Chairman of Gabsara Union in Bhuyapur Upazila, stated that part of Bhuyapur, including Gabsara Union, is nearly completely submerged due to its proximity to the Jamuna River. As a result, teaching is suspended even though the institutions remain technically open.

Tangail District Primary Education Officer Subrata Kumar Banik confirmed that while the government primary programs are ongoing, educational activities are suspended due to the floods. They will resume once the situation normalizes.

A.M. Zahirul Hayat, Tangail's Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education), added that teaching will recommence as soon as the flood situation improves.
