Cleveland, Oct 21, (V7N) — The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, broadcast live on Disney+ from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, showcased a star-studded lineup, including Cher, Kool & The Gang, and Dave Matthews Band, in a nearly five-and-a-half-hour celebration of musical excellence.

The event, which took place on Oct. 19, honored a diverse group of inductees, from rock legends to R&B icons, with performances that blended genres and generations. Cher, at 78, was a standout, electrifying the crowd with a powerful rendition of “If I Could Turn Back Time.” Her performance, backed by The Roots, was a testament to her enduring appeal. Before her, Dua Lipa set the stage ablaze with a cover of “Believe,” showcasing her own stage presence while paying homage to the icon.

Cher’s acceptance speech was both candid and inspiring. “It was easier getting divorced from two men than getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” she quipped, before delivering a heartfelt message to women everywhere about resilience and self-worth.

Kool & The Gang, celebrated for their funky sound, finally received their due recognition after 30 years of eligibility. The group's medley, featuring classics like “Hollywood Swinging” and “Jungle Boogie,” had the audience dancing, with Dave Matthews himself grooving along. The performance culminated in the obligatory but joyous “Celebration,” complete with confetti.

Jennifer Hudson brought her powerhouse vocals to a tribute for Dionne Warwick, who joined her on stage for an emotional rendition of “Walk on By.” Despite a few shaky moments, Warwick demonstrated her signature phrasing and control, reminding everyone of her legendary status.

Foreigner’s tribute was a blend of nostalgia and surprise. With founding member Mick Jones absent, Demi Lovato, Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Slash took the stage. Lovato’s grit shone through on “Feels Like the First Time,” while Kelly Clarkson brought emotional depth to “I Want To Know What Love Is.” In a delightful twist, original vocalist Lou Gramm joined Clarkson, thrilling fans with a duet that showcased their vocal chemistry.

The ceremony also featured heartfelt tributes, including a touching homage to Jimmy Buffett by James Taylor and Kenny Chesney, and awards for musical excellence given to icons like Dionne Warwick and MC5.

The evening encapsulated the spirit of rock and roll, celebrating not just the inductees but the rich tapestry of music that continues to inspire and unite audiences across the world. A three-hour special of the event will air on ABC on Jan. 1, followed by replays on Hulu and Disney+.
