Dhaka, Dec 20 (V7N) — Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has removed the verified Facebook page of journalist and online activist Elias Hossain, which had nearly 2.2 million followers.

The page became inaccessible from Friday night, December 19, and could no longer be found on Facebook, prompting widespread discussion on social media platforms.

The development comes in the aftermath of violence, vandalism, and arson reported in different parts of Bangladesh following the death of Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi. During this period, several institutions were targeted, including leading national daily Prothom Alo, English-language newspaper The Daily Star, and cultural organizations such as Chhayanaut and Udichi.

In this context, allegations emerged that Elias Hossain had posted multiple provocative and inciting statements on his Facebook page on Thursday night. Shortly afterward, his verified page was taken down and has remained unavailable since.

Meta has not issued any official statement regarding the removal of the page. However, under Facebook’s Community Standards, action may be taken against content that incites violence, promotes hate speech, or poses risks to public safety.

The removal of Elias Hossain’s Facebook page has sparked debate and discussion across social media, with users expressing differing views over freedom of expression, platform accountability, and content moderation.
