Australian filmmaker George Miller expressed his enthusiasm for the "Mad Max" series, describing it as "addictive," ahead of the premiere of the franchise's fifth installment, "Furiosa."

"Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," set for release in late May, serves as an origin story for the iconic character Furiosa, portrayed by Charlize Theron in 2015's "Mad Max: Fury Road." In this prequel, a younger Furiosa will be played by Anya Taylor-Joy, known for her role in "The Queen's Gambit."

Miller shared insights about the film during the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas, revealing that the idea for "Furiosa" emerged from the detailed character backgrounds he developed during the production of "Fury Road." The success of "Fury Road," both commercially and critically, inspired Miller to explore Furiosa's backstory as a standalone narrative.

In "Furiosa," the titular character is abducted from her home and becomes embroiled in a conflict between Immortan Joe, the antagonist from "Fury Road," and a new rival character played by Chris Hemsworth.

The "Mad Max" franchise, which began in 1979 with Mel Gibson in the lead role, has evolved over decades, drawing global acclaim for its visceral action and distinct visual style. Miller's unique filmmaking approach, influenced by his experiences as a medical doctor in Australia, contributed to the series' enduring appeal.

Miller emphasized the importance of evolving the franchise with each installment, ensuring that "Furiosa" remains "uniquely familiar" while offering fresh perspectives and narratives.

"Furiosa" is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, promising audiences another exhilarating chapter in the adrenaline-fueled world of "Mad Max."
