Dhaka, March 30, (V7N) - Bangladesh has swiftly responded to the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck northern Myanmar on March 28, claiming at least 1,644 lives and injuring 3,408 others.
Following directives from Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh has initiated emergency relief efforts through the Bangladesh Armed Forces. A dedicated rescue and medical assistance team has been prepared, while emergency supplies—including medicines, tents, dry food, and other essential materials—are being dispatched.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), two Bangladesh Air Force and Army aircraft (C-130 and CASA) landed at Yangon Airport today, carrying 16.5 metric tonnes of relief materials. The supplies include food packets, medicines, hygiene kits, plastic sheets, mosquito nets, solar lights, and other necessities.
The ISPR further noted that today's aid delivery is only the beginning. Subject to Myanmar's approval, additional relief consignments, along with a full-scale rescue and medical assistance team led by the Bangladesh Army, will follow.
A specialized 26-member search and rescue team from the Bangladesh Armed Forces, along with a 10-member rescue team from the Fire Service and Civil Defense, is on standby to support ongoing relief efforts. Additionally, two medical teams, each comprising 11 members—including Bangladesh Army personnel and civilian doctors—are prepared to provide medical assistance.
Reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment to humanitarian efforts, the ISPR stated that the Armed Forces remain dedicated to assisting in global crises as per government directives.
