DHAKA, April 6, (V7N) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has announced its decision to file two separate cases against former foreign minister and ex-MP from Chattogram-7, Dr. Hasan Mahmud, and his wife Nurun Fatema Hasan on charges of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.

At a regular press briefing held at ACC Headquarters, ACC Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen said the couple is accused of misusing state power to acquire substantial wealth inconsistent with their declared income.

The ACC chairman disclosed that a preliminary investigation revealed Dr. Hasan Mahmud allegedly amassed about Taka 39 crore while serving as the foreign minister. Investigators also detected suspicious transactions through nine of his bank accounts, which did not align with his known income sources.

In a separate probe, the ACC found further evidence of financial irregularities involving both Dr. Hasan Mahmud and his wife. The investigation uncovered 56 bank accounts through which transactions amounting to around Taka 683 crore were made.

“These transactions were found to be entirely inconsistent with their sources of income,” said the ACC chairman, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges and confirming that legal action is imminent.

The ACC's move comes amid renewed efforts to combat high-profile corruption and ensure accountability among public officials. The cases are expected to be filed soon under relevant provisions of the anti-corruption law.
