Dhaka, Apr 14 (V7N) — The heart of the capital came alive this morning as thousands gathered for the much-anticipated ‘Barshavaran Ananda Shobhajatra’, the grand cultural procession to welcome Bengali New Year 1432, organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University.
The vibrant procession began at 9 am from the Fine Arts Complex, winding its way through Shahbagh, TSC, Shaheed Minar, Physical Education Center, Doyel Chattar, and Bangla Academy, before returning to its starting point.
This year’s theme, ‘New Year’s Harmony, End of Fascism’, reflects the people’s aspiration for peace, justice, and unity. The streets were filled with colorful masks, giant papier-mâché structures, and motifs of hilsa fish, elephants, tigers, horses, watermelons, and playful slogans like "Pani Lagbe Pani"—all celebrating the spirit of Bengali folk heritage.
The atmosphere was electrifying as people of all ages—dressed in traditional colorful attire—joined with friends and families, clicking photos, singing songs, and enjoying the festive vibe. Children, in particular, were seen enthusiastically posing beside the massive artistic creations.
Ensuring the safety of the participants, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police maintained tight security throughout the procession route. Surveillance and additional deployments were in place to ensure a safe and joyous celebration for all.
This iconic procession, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, continues to embody the rich cultural spirit of the nation and remains one of the most beloved New Year traditions in Bangladesh.
