Dhaka, Apr 17 (V7N) – Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, is set to arrive in Dhaka for a two-day official visit on April 27, 2025, according to the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry.
"Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on a two-day official visit on April 27," the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported.
The announcement was made by Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin during a press briefing at the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka today. The visit was a key topic of discussion during the Foreign Office Consultation (FOC), a bilateral talk at the foreign secretary level, between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
"The upcoming visit of the Pakistani foreign minister was discussed during the Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) — a bilateral talk at the foreign secretary level - between Bangladesh and Pakistan — held in Dhaka today," the report detailed.
"At today’s meeting, we discussed the visit of the Pakistani foreign minister and finalized the dates. He will visit Dhaka from April 27 to 28,” Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin told reporters.
When questioned about the possibility of signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the visit, the Foreign Secretary indicated that several MoUs are currently under consideration between the two nations.
"Responding to a question about possible signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) during the visit, Jashim Uddin said, that several MoUs are under discussion between the two countries," the report stated.
"With the Pakistani foreign minister’s visit in mind, we have formed a working group comprising officials from our foreign ministry and the Pakistan High Commission. The goal is to finalize those MoUs through consultations with the relevant ministries,” he added.
Regarding speculation about a potential visit to Pakistan by Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Foreign Secretary clarified that the current focus is on the upcoming visit of the Pakistani Foreign Minister.
“Asked whether Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is likely to visit Pakistan soon, the foreign secretary said, “At the moment, we are focusing on the Pakistani foreign minister’s upcoming visit,” he said.
This visit marks a significant diplomatic event, as the last time a Pakistani Foreign Minister visited Dhaka was in 2012, when Hina Rabbani Khar held the office. The upcoming visit is expected to address various bilateral issues and potentially strengthen relations between the two countries.
"Last time a Pakistani foreign minister visited Dhaka was in 2012, when former Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar came to Bangladesh," the report noted.
The discussions during Ishaq Dar's visit are anticipated to cover a range of topics, including trade, economic cooperation, and regional stability.
