DHAKA, May 9 (V7N) - The National Consensus Commission convened a dialogue today with the Bhasani Anusari Parishad at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament).
Professor Dr Ali Riaz, Vice Chairman of the commission, chaired the discussion. Commission members Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider were also present.
The Bhasani Anusari Parishad was represented by its Chairman Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Secretary General Dr Abu Yusuf Selim, and Presidium Members Md Abdul Kader and Parvin Naser Khan, among others.
At the beginning of the dialogue, Professor Riaz stated that all political forces opposing 16 years of "fascist rule" desire a democratic Bangladesh characterized by an independent judiciary that safeguards civil rights and ensures a responsible system of governance.
He emphasized the need for transformative action, saying, "We must initiate a process of change. We must be united against fascism. We must create a state system where future generations can consider Bangladesh an ideal place through structural changes."
The National Consensus Commission, led by Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, was established to foster national consensus on various reforms. The commission officially commenced its work on February 15th.
It has identified key recommendations from five reform commissions – the Constitution Reform Commission, the Public Administration Reform Commission, the Electoral System Reform Commission, the Judiciary Reform Commission, and the ACC Reform Commission – to solicit input from different political parties.
