DHAKA, May 15, (V7N)– The Bomb Data Centre of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been granted full membership at the 2025 annual conference of the International Bomb Data Centre Working Group (IBDCWG).
This recognition was bestowed upon the DMP at the conference held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, according to a press release issued by the DMP.
The press release stated, "This achievement is not only an international recognition; it is a symbol of the strategic progress and global leadership of Bangladesh's security system."
Joining Bangladesh as new full members this year are Canada, Japan, and Dubai. The conference witnessed the participation of over a hundred representatives from 45 countries across the globe.
This prestigious achievement will now enable Bangladesh to collaborate with various countries worldwide in activities related to Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bomb detection, analysis, and explosives prevention, the release further noted.
The DMP emphasized that this membership reflects the international platform's trust and recognition in the country's security and technical capabilities.
Bangladesh was represented at the conference by two experienced officers from the DMP's Bomb Disposal Unit: Assistant Police Commissioner Md. Mahmuduzzaman and Sub-Inspector Md. Rafiq Uddin.
During the conference, they engaged in discussions on the prevailing explosive threat situation, modern IED trends, and the strategies employed in IED detection, decontamination, and subsequent investigation. Their contributions were reportedly well-received and widely appreciated at the international level.
The IBDCWG is a significant global collaborative platform that plays a crucial role in countering contemporary bomb and explosive threats. It facilitates the exchange of information, technology, and experiences among Bomb Data Centres, Bomb Disposal Units, and law enforcement agencies from different countries worldwide.
As a full member, Bangladesh will now have the opportunity to actively contribute to this international network and participate in policy-making processes.
The Bomb Disposal Unit of the DMP has already played a vital role in ensuring national security through over a hundred successful bomb disposals and various important operations. By leveraging international training, modern technology, and experience, the unit has evolved into a highly skilled and professional force of international standards.
