Dhaka, June 27 (V7N) — Police have requested a 10-day remand for former Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in a case filed over allegations of organizing a farce election and exerting undue influence.
The remand application was submitted on Thursday (June 26) by Shamsujjoha Sarkar, investigation officer and Sub-Inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, to the court.
The case was initially filed on Sunday by BNP executive committee member Salah Uddin Khan, who named 24 individuals—including three former CECs—accusing them of orchestrating rigged elections during the tenure of the ousted Awami League government.
Other accused in the case include Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former IGP Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, Javed Patwary, AKM Shahidul Haque, and others.
KM Nurul Huda was arrested shortly after the case was filed and was granted a four-day remand by the court on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested former CEC Kazi Habibul Awal from Moghbazar on Wednesday morning. Police sought a 10-day remand for Awal, but after a half-hour hearing, the court granted him a three-day remand.
