Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N) — Doctors involved in the treatment of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Osman Hadi are reportedly facing threats from abroad, raising concerns about the safety of medical personnel handling the case.
Dr. Mohammad Abdul Ahad, a neurosurgeon at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and one of the main doctors treating Hadi, said at a briefing at Evercare Hospital on Sunday afternoon that they are being continuously threatened via phone from India.
He stated, “Our lives are under threat. Our phone numbers are being made public, distributed to various groups, and the locations of our families and homes are being tracked.”
Dr. Ahad also addressed plans to transfer Hadi abroad for better treatment, saying, “A case summary has been prepared by the medical board, but no final decision has been made yet. Whether the patient is physically stable enough for transfer remains a major concern.”
Hadi, who was shot in the Bijoynagar Box Culvert area of Dhaka on Friday, December 12, remains in critical condition at Evercare Hospital. Police have so far arrested three suspects in connection with the attack.
The attack on Hadi, an independent candidate for Dhaka-8 in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, has sparked nationwide concern about election-related violence and threats to democratic processes.
