Jhalokathi, Dec 16 (V7N) – The Great Victory Day was celebrated in Kathalia Upazila with due honor and solemnity, paying tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for Bangladesh’s independence in 1971.

The observance began at sunrise on Tuesday as the Upazila Administration, Bangladesh Police, Freedom Fighters’ Organization, Fire Service, Ansar and VDP, the Kathalia Electricity Supply Authority, and people from various walks of life laid floral wreaths at the memorial adjacent to the Shaheed Minar. Through this gesture, they expressed deep respect and gratitude to the immortal martyrs of the Liberation War.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Makbul Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Kathalia Police Station Md. Naser Raihan, valiant freedom fighter Md. Fazlul Haque Mridha, along with government officials from different departments, journalists, teachers, and students, were present during the wreath-laying ceremony.

At 8:00 am, the national flag was formally hoisted at the Upazila Parishad premises, and a ceremonial salute was received by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and the Officer-in-Charge of the police station.

In addition to the official ceremonies, the Upazila Administration organized a series of day-long programs to mark the occasion. These included a reception honoring freedom fighters, a Victory Fair, a children’s art competition, and various sports events, creating a festive yet respectful atmosphere throughout the upazila.

Through these diverse initiatives, Kathalia observed the Great Victory Day in a dignified manner, reflecting national pride, remembrance, and a renewed commitment to the ideals of the Liberation War.
