The Digital Media Forum (DMF) recognized the exceptional achievements of five journalists by presenting them with the 'Digital Media Excellence Award 2024' on Saturday, (June 1).
 
Additionally, six individuals received the DMF Special Excellence Award for their remarkable contributions to the media, digital, and business sectors in the country.
 
The awards were conferred at a ceremony held at Bishwa Sahitya Kendra in the capital, where renowned figures including Zafar Wazed, Director-General of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), and Shyamal Dutta, General Secretary of Jatiya Press Club (JPC), were among those who presented the honors.
 
The recipients of the five awards for journalism excellence are Eiahia Nkib from Bonik Barta (Business Category), SM Marzan Ivan from Rtv (Entertainment), Jafar Iqbal from The Daily Kalbeal (Investigative Reporting), Sabbin Hasan from Samakal (ICT), and Yeasin Hasan from risingbd.com (Sports).
 
Furthermore, the DMF Special Excellence Award was bestowed upon Joy Barua, Founder and CEO of Roblife Technologies, Bibradhan Roy Emon, Deputy Manager of the Daily Prothom Alo, Mohammad Mohsin PPM (BAR), Officer-in-Charge of Tejgaon Police Station, Abdullah Jayed, Founder and CEO of FoundedNext & NEXT Ventures and Director of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), and Dr. Rafat Ul Islam Khan, Managing Director Khabar Dabar Catering, and Sabbir Hasan Nasir, Managing Director of SWAPNO.
 
The Digital Media Forum, dedicated to journalists and digital media professionals, introduced these awards to elevate the country's digital media industry to international standards.
 
The selection process involved rigorous evaluation by a panel of judges led by Zafar Wazed, along with other distinguished jury members, including UNB Special Correspondent Muhammed Abddur Rahman Jahangir and Head of News Daily Sobuj Nishan Mohammad Moksedur Rahman Wali.
 
DMF President Md Delowar Hossain noted that over a hundred journalists from print and electronic media submitted their reports for consideration. The jury board selected the recipients impartially based on the quality of their work.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, PIB DG Zafar Wazed emphasized the importance of fostering excellence and professionalism within Bangladesh's digital media landscape through initiatives like these.
 
JPC General Secretary Shyamal Dutta highlighted the significance of responsible journalism on digital platforms and suggested that the Digital Media Forum could play a significant role in upholding quality standards.
 
DMF General Secretary Raihan Ullah Rabin, along with other officials and members of DMF, were also present at the event.
