Dhaka, Sep 28 (V7N): Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur emphasized the need for the involvement of political parties to strengthen the interim government led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He suggested that representatives from various political parties be included to form a more inclusive and robust government.

Nur, speaking at a debate competition organized by Debate for Democracy at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on Saturday, said, “Political-party representatives will act as associate partners in the interim government. This inclusive approach would reduce the gap between the government and political parties, facilitating smoother governance."

The debate, titled 'Student Politics is an Obstacle for Fair Environment of Education,' was chaired by Debate for Democracy Chairman Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron.

Nur, a former vice-president (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu), voiced concerns that the current interim government was losing its acceptability due to rising prices of essentials, fuel shortages, and foreign loan issues. He argued that including political parties and considering their practical opinions would help the government navigate these challenges effectively.

He warned that without coordination with political parties, the government might face disaster, which would, in turn, affect the people of the country.

Nur also highlighted the role of the media in providing constructive criticism, which would allow the government, along with political parties, to take pragmatic decisions to reform the state and meet public expectations.

Regarding the upcoming general election, Nur called for holding national elections that prioritize public aspirations. He also advocated for lowering the minimum age for candidates from 25 to 21, allowing innovative and creative young people to participate and bring positive change.

After witnessing the debate between students from Manarat International University and Bangladesh University, Nur stressed the importance of holding Students' Union elections in colleges and universities. He believes active unions would diminish the negative impacts of traditional student politics.
