Dhaka, June 29 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has called on citizens to remain vigilant against efforts to mislead them with discussions of proportional representation (PR) systems or local elections, warning that such issues are being raised to hinder the nation’s progress.
Speaking as chief guest at the Ramna Thana BNP membership collection and renewal program at the Institute of Diploma Engineers auditorium in Kakrail on Sunday, Abbas stressed the need for unity. “A group is trying to obstruct the country’s advancement by creating unnecessary demands. We must remain focused,” he said.
The BNP leader urged party activists to work together in the national interest and ensure that elections proceed smoothly. He cautioned against enrolling unfit individuals: “Even though we don’t need more members, bad elements must not be taken into the party.”
Abbas also made it clear that “there is no place for friends of the ousted Awami League in BNP.” Alleging that elements from other parties were extorting money while blaming the BNP, he directed party leaders and workers to actively resist extortion wherever it occurs.
