Dhaka, Oct 23 (V7N) – Fascism is resurfacing in the country, and democracy must be restored, cautioned BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, urging political prudence to prevent a potential constitutional crisis.
"We must ensure that no political or constitutional turmoil arises," Nazrul Islam stated while addressing reporters after a meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at his Jamuna residence today (23 October). BNP leaders Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed also attended the meeting.
Nazrul emphasized the importance of forming a democratic government through necessary reforms for fair elections. He also discussed alleviating public suffering due to rising commodity prices, stressing the need to strengthen national unity to protect the change achieved through sacrifices.
He added that any attempts to create political or constitutional unrest would be strongly opposed.
Law Adviser Asif Nazrul and Labor and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmood Sajeeb Bhuiyan were also seen entering the Chief Adviser's residence during the meeting.
Following the discussions, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam clarified that this meeting was part of routine dialogues with various political parties. He noted that similar meetings with other political groups would continue in the coming days.
Regarding President Mohammed Shahabuddin's possible resignation, Alam reiterated the government's stance, aligning with Law Adviser Asif Nazrul's previous comments. He assured the media that any developments on the matter would be communicated.
On 21 October, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul accused President Shahabuddin of making a false statement regarding former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation. According to Nazrul, the president's claim that he did not receive the resignation letter contradicts his earlier speech on 5 August, where he stated that Hasina had resigned, and he had accepted her resignation.
