Dhaka, Oct 23 (V7N) – The High Court has dismissed four extortion cases filed against BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman in 2007. The decision was delivered by a bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain following hearings on the legality of the trial proceedings.
The cases were initially filed at Kafrul Police Station in 2007, although the alleged extortion incidents occurred in 2004 and 2005. The High Court had issued rules in response to petitions filed by Tarique Rahman in 2008, while he was still residing in Bangladesh.
Barrister Shanjid Siddique, one of Tarique's legal representatives, confirmed the verdict to The Daily Star. AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Kayser Kamal also represented Tarique Rahman during the hearings. Tarique is currently residing in the UK.
