Dhaka, Oct 23 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed alarm over the potential constitutional crisis that could arise from a sudden vacancy in the presidential office. Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP’s standing committee, emphasized the importance of maintaining constitutional stability during a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan on Wednesday.

Ahmed's comments come in the wake of discussions surrounding President Md. Sahabuddin's position, as well as speculation about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. He warned that a delay or obstruction in the transition to democracy could create a "state and constitutional crisis" detrimental to the nation. He urged vigilance to prevent factions he referred to as "friends of fascism" from exploiting the situation following any potential resignation by the president.

Earlier on Wednesday, Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, confirmed that no decision had been made regarding President Sahabuddin's resignation. Amidst political turmoil, comments from President Sahabuddin about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, which lack documentary evidence, have stirred significant controversy and fueled public demands for his resignation.

Protesters from the anti-discrimination student movement gathered in front of Banga Bhaban, demanding the president's resignation. The unrest follows a notification from the President's press wing, issued on Monday night, stating that the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation had been settled and urging the public to refrain from creating further controversies that might destabilize the interim government.

The current political climate remains tense, with calls for accountability and clarity from the government as various factions maneuver for power amid growing unrest.
